I’m always looking for ways to clean my bathroom quickly and efficiently! The bathroom is an important place to keep clean due to the high amount of traffic and general nature of the room. While we may not clean it every day, no one wants to spend an hour cleaning out the bathroom, and using multiple products can get frustrating.
Luckily, vinegar is a great tool for bathroom cleaning! It’s acidity and antibacterial properties make it a perfect choice to scrub down the dirtiest place in the house.
Here’s what you’ll need:
3/4 cup of baking soda
1/4 cup of lemon juice
3 tablespoons of salt
3 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid
1/2 cup of vinegar
15 drops of essential oil (choose something with citrus!)
In a large bowl (remember that baking soda and vinegar will fizz and bubble!) mix the ingredients together. I used a glass bowl because I didn’t want the vinegar to harm the coating on any of my nice plastic bowls. It probably wouldn’t have, but I didn’t want to chance it.
The mixture will be a bit thicker and so you’ll need a rag or scrubber to get it in all of the places you need it. For the shower, I dipped my scrub brush into the mixture and spread it around. It lifted the gunk off fairly quickly and the soap scum was completely gone once I rinsed the walls off with water.
The vinegar in the mixture whitened my tiles, too. The grout went from dark brown back to shiny white in only about 10 minutes!
I added peppermint essential oils to mine. It mixed with the smell of lemon juice well and gave the bathroom a fresh scent. There was only a hint of vinegar smell afterwards, but it was gone within a few minutes so it’s not something to worry about. The vinegar, lemons, and essential oils all have antibacterial and deodorizing properties, too. It not only smells good, it gets rid of unwanted odors! Perfect for a bathroom.
I love these homemade cleaners the most because if you’re running late and are expecting guests, there won’t be the overwhelming smell of harsh chemicals lingering throughout the hallways.
