DIY Marbled Mugs

Coffee mugs have always been a fun gift for any occasion, and a customized mug is even better! Make these yourself for birthdays, graduations, holidays, or just for fun! They are so simple and fun, you’ll want to make one for everyone you know.

527eStart with a blank coffee mug. Gather old nail polish in colors that you like. These will be on your mugs!

Have an old plastic bin, toothpicks, and paper towels underneath everything. You don’t want to get nail polish on your furniture.

Fill the bin with warm water – this will help the nail polish to stay in liquid form in case you need a little bit of extra time. Once the nail polish gets cool, it begins to harden.

Pour a bit of old nail polish gently onto the surface of the water. If you pour too quickly, the polish may just form a ball and sink to the bottom of the bowl. Shake the polish up before you try to pour it out to make sure the color is mixed well.

527iUse a toothpick to swirl the polish and break up any clumps. The polish should be spread out across the surface of your water. If you want to add any designs with a second nail polish color, now is the time to add it in and swirl it all around, too.

Before the polish begins to dry, quickly angle your cup to where you would like the polish to be. Leave a good inch or two to leave room for your lips! Since the polish won’t be dishwasher or microwave safe, you don’t want to accidentally have any polish come of while you’re trying to drink!

It’s beautiful! Get a bit of polish onto the handle, as well. This will tie in the look nicely.

After you’ve gotten one color completed, take that same toothpick and swirl it around the surface of the water to be sure that all of the leftover, dried polish is gone.

Once the surface of the water is clear again, you can add your next color (or colors!) of nail polish and do it all over again!

Create a cute matching set, or individual mugs for friends and family! These mugs are perfect because they are unique and handmade. If you’re giving them as a gift, include single-serving coffee sachets or a nice box of tea.

Remember – these mugs are not dishwasher safe, so be sure to hand wash them when they need to be cleaned. The durability of the design will also depend on the quality of nail polish you choose.

These cute handmade designs are a wonderful way to bring a POP of color into your kitchen, dining room, or coffee table! You could have different themes depending on the holiday, and it will be super easy to make new ones if you decide to redecorate!

Make them yourself and see how easy and fun they are to make! There are so many different color combinations, and with the never-ending choice in nail polish colors, the possibilities are endless! See the full instructions here.
